Our listener reached out to us looking for some tough love. She has been dating her boyfriend for over 10 YEARS, and she knows he’s not the one.
She’s “comfortable,” so it’s hard for her to leave. Plus, she is worried about starting fresh with someone new. Can we help give her that push she needs?
Here’s her email:
Bert Show… I need some tough love. Act like you’re my best friends. I need help breaking up with my boyfriend of 10 years. The problem is, I KNOW he’s not the one, and logically in my head I KNOW I need to leave, but I just. can’t. do it. I can’t find the willpower.
Sometimes I think it’s hard because I’m “comfortable”, but it’s not even that comfortable anymore. We’re more like roommates than lovers at this point, but I know he’s ready to get married any day. He’s content with this, and I need so much more.
I need a push to get out of here. Be brutal, share tips and tricks, anything. I’ve gone over it and over it in my head for (honestly) years now, and I can’t make myself leave. I need something dramatic. Maybe the Bert show fam can call in if they’ve gone through this and found something that helped them leave?
I’m 29. I am SO stressed about running out of time to find someone new and start a family and just move on with my life. Every birthday I think “maybe by next year my life will look different” and then another year goes by. Please help.
Love you guys,
