Naya Rivera’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of their 5-year-old son Josey.
Ryan is suing Ventura County, claiming that the boat Naya and Josey were on when she drowned over the summer didn’t comply with safety standards.
The lawsuit states that the boat was, “not equipped with a safely accessible ladder, adequate rope, an anchor, a radio or any security mechanisms to prevent swimmers from being separated from their boats, nor any flotation or lifesaving devices.”
It also says there were no signs warning of dangerous conditions on the lake, and the person who rented Naya the boat didn’t warn her to wear a life vest.
Ryan claims that when Naya and Josey jumped into the lake, the boat started “rocking back and forth forcefully in the current and wind,” and drifted away from them. And he says proper safety equipment would have prevented that.
