Our listener needs MAJOR help conquering her fear of throwing up. She even panics when her child gets sick. So today we brought in Sean Wheeler with Heartbreak Hypnotist to help.
Here’s her email:
Dear Bert Show, I really need some advice. For as long as I can remember I have had a phobia of getting sick. And by sick I mean throwing up. I know, nobody enjoys it, but I have a debilitating fear of it. It causes me to miss things and alter my life because of it. A few examples: I refused to go to college because I was afraid of sharing a dorm with someone because what if they got sick? I won’t fly on a plane or go near any public transportation. I avoid situations where people might get too drunk and get sick. And if someone even mentions they have a stomach ache, I go into a mental tailspin and make myself feel sick.
The biggest problem though, is that I have a 5 year old daughter. We have been extremely fortunate with her health, thankfully. But whenever she has a tummy ache, I panic. It makes me feel like the absolute shittiest mom when she says she doesn’t feel good and all she wants is to cuddle with me and for me to make her feel better, and all I want is to run away and hide. It breaks my heart but I physically can’t do it. When my husband is here he takes over but he works and travels, and I stay at home with her so it falls on me. I don’t know what I can do to get over this fear. Can you please ask your listeners if anyone has successfully overcome this? I’ve heard hypnosis can work but I am skeptical. Please help!!!
