The #1 album on the Billboard chart this week comes from Zac Brown Band, who sold 234,000 copies of “Uncaged.” It’s the band’s second #1, and it’s the second biggest sales week for a country album so far this year – only Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” sold more, when it debuted at #1 with 267,000 copies back in May.
In 2nd place was hip-hop singer Frank Ocean. His hip-hop disc “Channel Orange” sold 131,000 copies in its first week. That’s better than Usher’s recent album “Looking 4 Myself,” – which only sold 128,000 in its debut – and it almost matches Chris Brown’s “Fortune,” which moved 135,000 copies in its debut a week ago. Those are big numbers considering a lot of people hadn’t even heard of Frank Ocean until he came out as a gay man earlier this month – and his album was selling almost exclusively on iTunes.
One other noteworthy item from this week’s “Billboard” chart: Adele sold another 35,000 copies of “21″ to finish at #8 and notch her 73rd straight week in the top 10. That means “21″ has now spent more weeks in the top 10 than any other album by a woman in history. Alanis Morissette held the previous record, when “Jagged Little Pill” had a 72-week run back in 1995 to 1996.
