The real girl belly project: in an effort to battle the unrealistic photoshopped bellies and bodies on magazine covers, in movies and photos, the website xoJane took it upon themselves to solicit real pictures from real women – no touch-ups, no photoshopping – just real, live women. And to be honest, the imperfections make them completely perfect.
From the Molly, an author on the xoJane site:
“Guys, you are amazing. After we put up the [original] xoJane Real Girl Belly Project last week, we were inundated with more and more photographs, taken by you, of your unaltered bellies. Seriously, my inbox is chock-ful of bellies, and your seriously inspiring stories. True story: I HAVE CRIED.
One of you wrote a poem! To quote Amanda, 35: ‘Mirror, mirror, on the wall /Why must I compare to all/ The airbrushed bellies I have seen/ Idealized on page and screen?/ Instead, I vow that I will dare/ To love, appreciate, and share/My belly, be it round or flat. /Hey Media, whatcha think of that?’
This gallery includes brown bellies, scarred bellies, innies and outies, bellies with insulin pumps, TWO bellies that have donated a kidney, bellies that have held babies and bellies that hope to hold babies one day. ”
