American swimmer Ryan Lochte has won five medals in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but as it turns out, that’s not his only contribution to American history and society.

Lochte is also a highly intuitive and intelligent philosopher, (just check out this sweet interview montage), as demonstrated by some posts on his Twitter account in the past few months.

An article in New York Magazine pulled together some of the most insightful posts – “Lochteisms,” if you will – and we’ve shared a few below:

everyone is selling dreams until u can buy one

If u choose one path to get to where u wanna be in life, doesn’t mean u have to abandon all the other paths

For those who are understood no need to explain

The game isn’t always fair but thats the thang though!!

u can’t always walk a straight line, especially if the line is crooked

Too travel is sometimes better to arrive!

Pain is temporarily, but pride last forever

When u jump off make sure u land feet first

Sometimes u just gotta stay ahead of ur shadow

Can u catch lightening in a bottle and set the water on fire?

Rocks, paper, siccor……..
