CNN Sports anchor and correspondent (and friend of The Bert Show!) Coy Wire is in Pyeongchang for the 2018 winter games, and he’s got the boots on the ground scoop!
Coy discusses notable Olympic athletes, like Gus Kenworthy, the first openly gay American man to compete in the Winter Games and Lindsey Vonn, the world’s most decorated female Alpine skier who wanted her grandfather (who fought in the Korean War) to watch her perform in the games in Pyeongchang; unfortunately he passed away a few months ago.
Korean cheerleaders are stealing the show and singing songs about how they want to reconnect with the south, but it’s a touchy situation since North Korea is such an oppressive force.
Coy’s most moving moment was right after Red Gerrard won but he couldn’t get to his parents, so he shouted to them while waving an American flag, “Dad, what the heck just happened?!”
