The new issue of Time magazine has a pretty provocative cover, probably engineered for maximum shock value, to get people talking. And like the sheeple we are, we’re talking about it. It shows a 26-year-old mother breastfeeding her three-year-old son. He’s too big to be in her arms, so he’s standing on a small chair to reach her.
It’s for a story about Dr. Bill Sears, a pediatrician who’s calling for extended breastfeeding. But obviously a photo of him on the cover wasn’t going to be as exciting as a toddler breastfeeding, so Time went with that.
The Internet has done its usual Internet thing . . . people applauding the cover, people outraged over the cover, people applauding the idea of extended breastfeeding, people decrying it. You know how it goes.
