Natalie Portman says Ashton Kutcher was paid three times more than her for the romantic comedy “No Strings Attached” in 2011.
It wasn’t that they wanted him three times as much necessarily; like a lot of Hollywood movies, their pay was based on of their highest paycheck up to that point, and Ashton’s number was three times higher than hers.
She says, “I wasn’t as [mad] as I should’ve been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it’s hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy.” There’s no word how much each of them got, but the overall budget was $25 million.
Coincidentally, Forbes.com put out an article JUST before “No Strings Attached” came out, arguing that “No Strings Attached” and “Your Highness” could boost Natalie’s salaries going forward.
At the time, she’d won a Golden Globe for “Black Swan,” but hadn’t yet won her Oscar for it.
Tthe article notes that while awards are nice, it’s hit movies that get actors more money and up to that point, Natalie hadn’t done many big movies outside the “Star Wars” prequels.
