When a yellow Labrador was struck and killed on a busy street in La Puente, CA, last Wednesday, a female black Labrador stood guard…even in heavy traffic.
A motorist spotted the dogs on the street, and put down traffic cones to alert other drivers. He then shot a video of the pair, which shows the black Labrador sitting next to and then circling the motionless yellow Labrador in the middle of a traffic lane as vehicles drive by.
The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care says the staff named the 2-year-old dog Grace.
No one claimed her, so she was put up for adoption.
Six people have already asked to adopt Grace, and the dog will be awarded to “the first person who comes in and starts the paperwork on the animal.”
*Update*
The loyal Labrador retriever named Maggie, who was videotaped as she guarded the body of a yellow Lab hit and killed by a car in Southern California, has been reunited with her family.
Maggie’s family claimed her Monday from a Los Angeles Shelter, after she’d been spayed and microchipped and dozens had offered to adopt her.
A spokesperson from Animal Care and Control says Maggie can go home today after shelter workers inspect her home. They will be issued citations for having an unregistered dog, and for allowing the animal to run loose.
