While Kristin’s friend was in town visiting, her house was broken into. But what makes Kristin really worried for her friend is the nature of the violation; nothing was stolen…but just the girl’s stuff (from the infant to the children to the adult – only the women) was rifled through.
Based on the nature of the crime, one listener said there’s a likelihood that the violators could come back. Was this a personal attack?
Well, Kristin thinks that she’s figured out what might have happened to her friend: someone was looking for their kids’ social security numbers! Why? Because they use those numbers to establish new credit lines.
It happened to one girl, and she had $1.5 MILLION in debt…as a kid! And this is nothing new – apparently a lot of parents have done this during hard times; they’ve applied for credit cards and the like in their children’s names to keep the lights on!
So what can you do to protect your kid’s credit? Put a lock on your child’s credit with all three credit agencies: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experien.
