Katy Perry Did More than Just Kiss a Girl

Katy Perry Did More than Just Kiss a Girl

“I Kissed a Girl” was Katy Perry’s first big hit, but if the lyrics were more honest, you never would have heard it on the radio…because it turns out there was a lot more than kissing going on.

Katy was honored this weekend by the Human Rights Campaign, and she opened up about her religious upbringing and her sexuality. She said, “‘I kissed a girl and I liked it’…truth be told, I did more than that.”

Katy grew up singing gospel and participating in youth groups she called, “pro-conversion camps.” Even then, she understood that sexuality wasn’t black and white, but she still, “tried to pray the gay away in my Jesus camps.”

However, that all changed when she broke into the mainstream music industry.

“I found my gift and my gift introduced me to people outside my bubble and my bubble started to burst. These people were nothing like I had been taught to fear. They were the most free, strong, kind and inclusive people I have ever met.”
