A few days ago, we talked to one Bert Show listener, Chelsea, whose 12-year-old future sister-in-law confided in Chelsea that she wanted to start birth control.

Obviously a situation like this elicited strong debate from both sides of The Bert Show community, and one mom, Alicia, shares why she started her 14-year-old on birth control:

In a nutshell, Alicia’s main premise is that young adults – even preteens – will find a way to have sex, and even though it’s not condoned, it’s better to take preventative measures.

While some moms are from this school of thought, others are abhorrent at the thought and feel that once word gets out that a girl is on birth control, they’ll be branded at school and it will give boys free license:

Most of the calls from yesterday were from moms…but what do dads have to say about it?

Tell us what you think: is 14 too young for birth control?
