Have an overbearing and insecure boss? Science Daily shares an article from The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology that examines the solution: “the interactive effects of power, competency threats and gratitude expression on the tendency to denigrate others.”

In short: showing gratitude is the best way to handle an overbearing and insecure boss.

According to researchers, bosses who threatened and degraded their subordinates stopped doing so when the subordinate expressed gratitude (for example, leaving ‘thank you’ notes). While this may work, it’s important to note that this may just be a short-term fix and and may not be a long-term solution.
