People think of celebrities as rich, coddled snowflakes, but a lot of them really put the work in and made sacrifices to get where they are. Like Halle Berry, who had to live in a homeless shelter before her big break.
Halle moved to New York City with a little money in her pocket from a modeling gig, but she was broke in three months.
She says, “I called my mother and asked her to send me some money, and she said no, and that subsequently led to a year of not speaking to her because I was so upset that she wouldn’t help me.”
Instead, Halle’s mom told her, “If you want to be there, then you work it out.”
Of course, that’s what Halle did; she worked her way out of the shelter waitressing and bartending. Now she knows that it was, quote, “one of the best things [my mother] did for me.”[People]
