There was a rumor going around this week that Gisele Bundchen was “begging” Tom Brady to go out on top and retire.
Well, Brady is basically CONFIRMING it. He says, “If it was up to my wife, she would have me retire today. She told me that last night three times. And I said, ‘Too bad, babe, I’m having too much fun right now.'”
Brady is 39 years old and he’s the oldest starting quarterback in the league. Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints is next at 38.
Of course, there have been quarterbacks play into their 40s, including Brett Favre, Mark Brunell, Doug Flutie, Warren Moon, and Vinny Testaverde. However, it isn’t very common, especially in the modern NFL.
Brady isn’t even thinking about retirement now. “You know, I feel like I can still do it. If you love what you do and you’re capable of doing it, then I might be so bored if I wasn’t going out there knowing that I could still do it. So I’m going to work hard to be ready to go, and I still plan on playing for a long time.”
He hopes to play for another five years or so, which sounds like a pipe-dream, but then again, he looked like he was still in the middle of his prime in the Super Bowl.
