The cast of The Dark Knight Rises was shocked and in tears after they found out about the shooting during a screening of the movie at a theater in Aurora, Colorado. The cast was in Paris for a premiere of the movie when they found out about the shooting; the premiere was cancelled and they flew back to Los Angeles.
Sources say the cast was completely shocked and several including Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, and a couple of the men were in tears.
Batman actor Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, and director Christopher Nolan released statements about the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado.
Bale said, “Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”
Nolan released a statement on behalf of the cast and crew saying, “I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community.” He continues: “The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.”
Anne Hathaway, who stars as Catwoman in The Dark Night Rises, said “My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act. I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
