Bert Joins HLN To Talk About Another Student Who Portrayed Muhammad Ali With Brown Makeup – And Now Faces Disciplinary Action

A few weeks back, Bert’s son, Hayden, wanted to honor Muhammad Ali during a school presentation. Hayden wanted to portray Muhammad Ali accurately…complete with a boxing uniform, gloves…and brown makeup on his face (check out the whole story, including Muhammad Ali’s response).

This sparked a huge debate about whether or not a 9-year-old donning another skin color with makeup elicited dark memories of black face, or if it was just an innocent child wanting to portray a Great American in the most true manner possible.

 

Well, another student – a second grader out of Colorado – took the same steps to portray Muhammad Ali…except in this case, the Principal made him wash his face, and he may be facing disciplinary action. Bert joined HLN to talk about his own experience with Hayden:
