At What Grade Level Do The Presidential Candidates Speak To The Masses?

We recently heard that Donald Trump’s supporters are the least literate of any other presidential candidate…at least when it comes to their spelling and grammar on social media. So this isn’t too surprising:

When Donald Trump speaks to voters, he does so at a 4th-GRADE level, and that’s also the lowest of any other candidate. Hillary Clinton is only in the MIDDLE of the pack, slightly below an 8th-grade level.

Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders isn’t on top, either. He’s at the 10th-grade level, along with two Republicans: Jim Gilmore and Mike Huckabee, and they’re both slightly higher than Bernie, with Gilmore at the very top.

Here are the candidates and their grade levels, from lowest to highest:

Republicans:

1. Donald Trump, 4.1

2. John Kasich, 4.7

3. Ben Carson, 5.9

4. Rick Santorum, 6.2

5. Lindsey Graham, 6.7

6. George Pataki, 7.0

7. Bobby Jindal, 7.1

8. Rand Paul, 7.5

9. Jeb Bush, 8.0

10. Marco Rubio and Chris Christie, 8.6

11. Ted Cruz, 8.9

12. Carly Fiorina, 9.6

13. Mike Huckabee, 10.3

14. Jim Gilmore, 10.5

For the Democrats, Bernie Sanders is at 10.1, Lincoln Chaffee is at 8.5, and Martin O’Malley is tied with Hillary at 7.1.
