We’ve already seen a few Secret Santas pay off layaway items at different Walmarts around the country. Usually they spend about 50 grand. But this might be some sort of record…
Tyler Perry posted a video on Twitter yesterday after he paid off all the layaway items at two different Walmarts in the Atlanta area. But wait for the dollar amount:
According to a Walmart spokesman, he wrote two checks for a grand total of $434,000.
He paid for $178,000 worth of stuff at a Walmart in East Point, Georgia…and $256,000 worth of stuff at a Walmart in the Atlanta suburb of Douglasville. About 1,500 people had their layaway items paid for.
In the video he posted on Twitter, Tyler said he was trying to do it anonymously, but, “nothing stays secret these days.” So apparently someone leaked it.
He said he knows a lot of people are struggling, and, “I’m just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this. So God bless you. Go get your stuff.” (Here’s the video.)
This caps a pretty generous year for Tyler. He recently gave an old friend’s mom a house. And he gave “Cosby Show” alum Geoffrey Owens an acting gig after he was spotted bagging groceries at a Trader Joe’s in New Jersey back in August.
