Toby Keith’s new song “Don’t Let the Old Man In” is featured in the new Clint Eastwood movie, “The Mule”…which is out next Friday. The song’s title is an exact quote that Clint said to him when they were golfing.
They were partnered-up at Clint’s tournament in Carmel, California last spring and Toby asked what he was planning to do for his upcoming 88th birthday. Clint said he was leaving the next day to spend three months filming a new movie.
Toby explains, “I said, ‘What keeps you going?’ and he said, ‘I get up every day and don’t let the old man in.’ So, I came home, wrote a song for him called ‘Don’t Let the Old Man In’ and sent it to him. And he put it in his movie.”
He adds, “I’ve met lots of famous people. I’ve met so many presidents and did a movie with Burt Reynolds. And as big as they all are, it was different with him. He was so iconic to me. He treated me like his son.”
The movie is based on the true story of a World War II veteran who became a courier for a drug cartel. It also stars Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia, and Laurence Fishburne. Toby’s video of the song features scenes from the movie.
