Jessica Simpson and Natalie Portman got into it on Twitter yesterday…for about two minutes.
Natalie did an interview this week, where she talked about a racy photoshoot Jessica did back in 1999.
She said, “I remember being a teenager, and there was Jessica Simpson on the cover of a magazine saying ‘I’m a virgin,’ while wearing a bikini. And I was confused. Like, I don’t know what this is trying to tell me as a woman.”
Jessica thought she was calling her a hypocrite, and so she posted a response on Twitter that said women can express themselves in different ways. Adding that being, “in a bikini and being proud of my body are not synonymous with having sex.”
Her post was fairly tame…and she ended it by saying she respects all the work Natalie has done to empower women through the Time’s Up movement.
Natalie responded hours later, and clarified that she was blaming the media for sending “mixed messages about how girls and women” should behave. She also said she has “nothing but respect” for Jessica and how she’s helped “empower women” all over the world. So the whole thing was basically just a misunderstanding.

Natalie Portman's reps just sent me this screenshot of the actor responding to Jessica Simpson's Instagram post.
"I didn't mean to shame you and I'm sorry for any hurt my words may have caused," Portman said. pic.twitter.com/HfOX4lwWAh
